Citizenship and Legislative- Community Action Program (CAP) Report

At the state level, there is a State Senate (33 senators) and a State House of Representatives (99 representatives). For our purposes future focus will be on six State Senators and 17 House representatives. Individually, we have one of each – who they are depends on your nine digit zip code.

At the federal level, there is a US Senate (100 Senators, two to each state) and a US House of Representatives (435 Representatives). Future focus will be on our two US Senators and the five US House Representatives that are close to our area. Individually, we need to deal with both of our US Senators; they represent all of Ohioans. Each of us has one US House of Representative who votes for us depending on where we live.

Regardless of what many people think, politicians still listen and answer to the people in their districts. The problem is most people never connect with them so they don’t always hear the voices of those they represent. Rest assured, they are not lonely! There are people connecting and talking to them all the time. Many of them are lobbyists, supporting political campaigns to have their agendas move forward.

UAW CAP is watching – and will be letting you know when something is not representing your best interests. Are you prepared to deal with the legislators who are overseeing your future? You should – they are working for you and you are paying their salary.

Healthcare Bill Update

The US Senate voted to move forward on the goal of repealing and replacing Obamacare. There will be a floor debate on the legislation to overturn the Affordable Care Act. The process to get to this point was the result of Vice President Mike Pence casting a tie-breaking vote.

After this debate legislation would move to a final vote. If the vote passes the legislation would then move to the House. If the House agrees to the same provisions, it would then go to the President for his signature.

Stay tuned. We’ll keep you updated on this critical issue.
