UAW LOCAL 1050 UPDATE

2/14/14

Brothers and Sisters of Local 1050,

This update is inclusive of the biggest grievance/issue that this plant has been involved with in regards to our rights (CBA) being violated.

As reported to you recently, the Bargaining Committee met with Alcoa top Management for the past two days, 2/12/14 & 2/13/14. The meeting was to come to a resolution regarding our Breaks and Clean-up Arbitration answer remedy. Our objective was to discuss three things. First, we were to come to a resolution of what productivity gains that the company has realized by ripping 35 minutes per day in an 8 hour shift since eliminating our 15 minute clean-up/travel time and our 20 minute break back in 2010. The second objective was to come to a resolution of going forward by the realized productivity gains and what monetary values we should receive. The third separate objective was a grievance that the Union filed back in September of 2012 for the company to reimburse the Union for our Attorney fees to represent the UAW in District Appeals court.

The Bargaining Committee along with our International Representative presented a proposal for remedy of the back pay and going forward monetary gains that we feel is responsible, fair and equitable based on the Arbitration award. Ultimately, the company answered that they don’t feel compelled to counter our proposal other than to verbally inform us that they feel that all productivity gains that the Arbitrator suggested as one of the possible remedies has been and is realized in our performance pay plan. We came to the table with the utmost intentions to come to a mutual settlement with the company. The Union has immediately contacted the Arbitrator with this new opposition of settlement as the decision states that the Arbitrator has full jurisdiction on the remedy.

For the record, we want you all to realize that our position is only accumulating what we feel that Alcoa owes us. The clock still hasn’t stopped on their financial obligation to each hour we produce.

We just have to remain united in this fight and in the end, we will win again!

In Solidarity,

UAW local 1050 Bargaining Committee
