NOMINATION & ELECTION OF OFFICERS

            The Election Committee has selected the following dates, times, and locations for the 2016 General Elections of UAW Local 1050. These are;

NOMINATIONS: ALL MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING OF UAW LOCAL 1050 SHALL STAND NOMINATED FOR ALL ELIGIBLE OFFICES.  Per Article 11 Section 15.

Executive Officers – May 17, 2016

Run-off elections (if necessary) May 24, 2016

 

Plant Officers

May 24, 2016 (NO RUN-OFF)

 

Eligibility: All members of UAW Local 1050 must be in continuous good standing for one year prior to declaring their candidacy.

Article 11 Section 16 - No member shall be permitted to run for more than one Executive Office.

Article 11 Section 16a – No Member shall be permitted to run for multiple offices which are shift specific in nature.

 

Declaring Candidacy: To become a candidate you must declare your intention by submitting your name in writing, EXACTLY AS YOU WANT IT TO APPEAR ON THE BALLOT for the position you wish to run for. Nominees have seven (7) calendar days to accept the nomination. The acceptance must be in writing. There are two (2) ways to do this:

 

                Declare by Letter: to submit your name by letter, it can be submitted to Chris Marotta, Election Committee Chair, c/o UAW local 1050, 2507 Harvard Ave., Cleveland, OH 44105.

THE DEADLINE FOR DECLARING BY LETTER IS APRIL 18, 2016 AT 5PM WHEN THE BOOK CLOSES.

ALL LETTERS MUST BE RECEIVED PRIOR TO CLOSING OF THE BOOK.

 

                Declare by signing the register: if your decision is to sign the official register, the place and time for signing the book will be at the Local Union Hall on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 5am to 5pm and Monday April 18, 2016 from 5am to 5pm.  The official register will also be available on Sunday, April 17, 2016, 30 min. prior to the April Union meeting, (10 AM to 10:30 AM) and also 30 min. after the conclusion of the meeting.

 

                There will be a CANDIDATES MEETING on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Union Hall starting at 3:30 PM to discuss election procedures, inspection of the Local Union's membership list, challengers, and other campaign rules.  A drawing will be held at this meeting to determine candidate position on the ballot.

 

THE DEADLINE FOR DECLARING YOUR INTENTION TO RUN IS

 APRIL 18, 2016 AT 5PM WHEN THE BOOK CLOSES.

THE POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 5AM TO 5 PM ON ELECTION DAYS

Election of Plant Committees

(run-off of Executive Officers if necessary)

 

                The voting will take place at the Union Hall and at the west parking lot across from gate five. All retirees must vote at the Union Hall, active members can vote in either place. Retired members vote for Executive Board and Retiree Chairperson. All retirees can vote for the Retiree Chairperson. In the event of a tie, the Election Committee Chairperson or his designee will use a coin toss to determine the winner with all parties given the opportunity to be present.

 

                Identification for those members working, vacation or sick leave must show their union membership card or Alcoa ID badge. Retired members must show their Alcoa retirement card or driver’s license. The members on layoff must show their driver’s license. Challenged ballots will be available if needed.

 

Executive Board Officers; President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, three (3) Trustees, Guide, and Sergeant-at-Arms, the winners must receive over 50% of the votes. Therefore any necessary runoff for these positions will be held on May 24, 2016. The three (3) Board Members at Large are elected by plurality vote. Plurality means the three (3) with the highest votes on the May 17, 2016.

 

Plant committees; Wheel Plant, Forge Plant, and the W/E Skilled Trades Committees. The Plant Committee consists of Chair, Vice Chair, and Chief Shift Stewards. You may vote for candidates for Plant Committee for the plant that you currently work in at the time of voting. Retired members do not vote for Plant Committees. Candidates for Plant Committee positions must hold a classification in their respective plant.

 

All Officers elected will serve a three-year term beginning with the July 17, 2016 membership meeting installation. The top four (4) Executive Officers are designated as the UAW Local Union Delegates to the UAW State and County CAP Councils.
