UAW Local 1050 Consumer Affairs Committee Report

Health Insurance Alert

Recently Anthem Health Insurance, which is connected to Highmark/Blue Shield, reported that their databases were hacked. It was reported that potentially names, birthdays, social security numbers, street addresses, email addresses, and employment information may have been accessed but not financial information, including credit card data.

Recent communications with Highmark, Anthem, and the FBI have confirmed that the cyber attack into one the Anthem IT systems potentially included employees who have current or have had past coverage.

For questions relating to this incident, you can call Anthem. That number is 1-877-263-7995. In addition to this, a website has been dedicated for questions concerning this at www.anthemfacts.com .

Also, information about possible identity theft can be found through the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov or Ohio consumer protection at https://ohio.gov/living/consumers

In Solidarity,

Rick Peck – Consumer Affairs Chairperson
